Healing Modalities Description:
Dina will tailor your bodywork session as you deem most useful to you. She began her career as a massage therapist in the early 1980's when massage wasn't even cool! Since then, Dina has continued to update her knowledge-base, bringing clients the very best of her abilities, enhancing lifeforce energy, promoting stress reduction, and assisting the entire being with its natural healing processes. Here is a description of Dina's services and the benefits they offer.
MASSAGE- A skillfully performed therapeutic massage can promote balance of mind, body, and spirit. Scientific studies indicate that massage can increase circulation, improve muscle tone, assist toxin elimination, reduce cellulite build-up, speed healing from illness or injury, relax muscle tension, relieve stress, lower blood pressure, release endorphins, increase flexibility and range of motion, reduce pain, relieve tension headaches, and promote better sleep!
REIKI - Reiki is a Japanese technique used for stress reduction and relaxation, both of which promote healing. Rei means "God's Wisdom or Higher Power" and Ki means "Life force energy." Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of self-healing and stress reduction. We use the words "self-healing" because just as a massage therapist does not "heal," per se, neither does a Reiki practitioner "heal," --- for healing comes from within. However, both Massage Therapy and Reiki (in their own ways) can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. Activation of the parasympathetic nervous system promotes stress relief and deep relaxation, which can induce profound health-benefiting effects within the body. Reiki can be described as an aura massage, for it works on the subtle energies of the body. However, the Reiki practitioner need not even touch the physical body to employ this beneficial technique. Used alone or in combination with a therapeutic massage, Reiki is a valuable stress-relieving tool. Dina has been a Certified Level II Reiki Practitioner since 1996.
SACRED SOUND
Sound therapy is a form of vibrational healing utilizing Tibetan singing bowls and bells that induce a deep state of relaxation. Notable physicians such as Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Deepak Chopra, and Dr. Mitchell Gaynor have publicly endorsed the use of sound as a viable complementary healing modality.
“If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies. One reason sound heals on a physical level is because it so deeply touches and transforms us on the emotional and spiritual planes. Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder.” (Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, director of Medical Oncology and Integrative Medicine, the Cornell Cancer Prevention Center in New York.)
Dina uses her set of Himalayan singing bowls and bells which she inherited from her late husband, Saul Lewis Smithson, renowned Aikido Master and former instructor of Aikido, Judo, Acupressure Therapy, Oriental Brush Art, and Holistic Massage at the University of New Orleans Recreation and Intramural Sports Dept. Using Saul's Tibetan bells that were gifted to him by his own Japanese and Chinese martial arts mentors, Dina employs these lovely sacred temple instruments to deepen a client's theta brain wave state: a state associated with peace of mind, intuition, and profound relaxation.
REFLEXOLOGY
Foot reflexology originated in ancient Egypt. The method involves application of pressure and massage to specific points and zones of the feet. Foot points mirror other areas and organs of the body. Foot reflexology is not only relaxing, but it is also a tool that helps to stimulate one's lifeforce (chi, ki, prana).
